collected coastal bathroom

collected coastal bathroom

Taking inspiration from the local seafaring history of this Portland, Maine home, I went with a look that I like to call “collected coastal” — AKA a coastal/nautical look with that hint of vintage-inspired charm. A look that feels both current and timeless all at the same time.

When it comes to designing powder rooms, I love to make a statement! You really can pack in a lot of punch into a smaller space like this and take risks that you wouldn’t normally take in other spaces of the home. This wallpaper is a perfect example of a fun pattern that also feels a little moody, classic and coastal (without being too over the top).

A big difference between “classic coastal” and the “collected coastal” look is the color palette and finishes/textures. Where classic coastal is usually more light and airy, collected coastal pulls from more rustic/masculine elements — like this single bath vanity in a darker wood tone.

Bringing in traditional-style antique brass bath accessories and lighting gives it that vintage charm — topped off with some framed prints inspired by the local area.

To add in another element of texture, I brought in a rope wrapped mirror for the vanity and some woven storage baskets. And one last way to tie it all together with a fun detail is by swapping out the switch plates for these antique brass versions — it’s such an affordable way to make such a big difference! It’s all in the details with a design like these so little things like this really do go a long way!
