classic organic guestroom

This client was looking to update her guestroom to feel more grown up and inviting while also functioning as her main “getting ready” space. She already had this classic metal bed frame to start (similar one here and here) as well as a newly purchased mirror (similar here), so it all came down to bringing in some warmth and texture through a new area rug, bedding and decor.

Since this is a smaller space and one that gets used often, we decided to do away with the current small 3-drawer dresser and smaller end table being used as a nightstand and then bring in a much larger, more substantial dresser that could double as a nightstand for when she is hosting guests. I love the the white oak finish of this dresser and the warmth it adds to the space. Even better that it adds more storage space as well as more “surface” space for getting ready.

In a smaller space, something as simple as a new area rug can change the entire look and feel — just like this one did in this space. I love the color palette and was able to build off of that in the bedding and more neutral tones in the wall art and decor.

And one other place to pack a lot of punch as far as an “investment” goes is through the window treatments — and woven wooden roman shades like these are always a great way to add warmth, texture and sophistication to any space.

When it comes to finishing touches, I’m all for keeping things on the more minimal side — for the dresser, we have a table lamp for lighting by the bed, frames to fill with personal photos and a cool, sculptural catch-all bowl on top of some coffee table books. And lastly, in the corner, a faux potted tree is my favorite way to bring in some color, height and texture!
