classic coastal living room

This project was unique in that the client actually had the space more or less finished with the larger furniture items ordered, but just needed help pulling it all together and injecting some color/personality into the space (while still having it feel fairly neutral/light-and-airy). Cue one of my favorite styles to work with: classic coastal.

With this space we had some beautiful architectural details in the built-ins and fireplace that were all newly painted a crisp white, so to bring in some dimension and subtle color, I chose Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl.

For the area rug, we needed something larger (in this case, a 10’x14’) that didn’t overwhelm the space too much and this Loloi rug was the perfect choice. Since the seating was all upholstered in a classic light-neutral fabric, I kept the accent tables in a lighter wood finish — like this console table for behind the extra large sofa and this accent table for in between the swivel chairs.

Since we have the TV incorporated in the built-ins, I wanted to keep the mantel styling on the more classic/simple side. I love the shape/finish of this Anthropologie mirror and how it pairs with a smaller framed landscape print, some stacked books, taper candle holders and a small floral arrangement.

Tying it all together with a faux potted tree, framed botanical prints and oversized baskets for wall decor makes for a look that feels clean, crisp and inviting.
